Petro-Canada refilling its pumps
Friday, August 29, 2008
The Calgary Herald -- Motorists will be able to start filling up at closed Petro-Canada stations again, possibly as early as this weekend, as the company's Edmonton gasoline refinery comes back on line.

However, it could be weeks before nearly 90 stations in B.C. and Alberta affected by the shortage will be replenished with fuel.

"Restarting the unit is going to take some time," said Petro-Canada spokesman Jon Hamilton.

The timing of the breakdown at this refinery is too much of a coincidence for my comfort zone.

Maybe it's time for our neighbors to the North to consider building another refinery. But, just as it is in this country when it comes to big industrial projects, they also have a problem with all of the NIMBYs.

funny how refineries pump out at max when demand is high yet suddenly have issues when demand is low.

hank1326, with all due respect to our southern neighbours, this isn't just an American website. I enjoy reading news from all over, including the US, but maybe that's because I've actually travelled outside of Canada, and I know Canada isn't the only country in the world.

Yes it is a good thing - it indicates that the refinery is coming back on line so that eliminates ONE of the excuses for higher prices in Canada.

It seems very odd that there is a shortage of fuel when Canada has one of the largers oil reserves in the world?

Did cantonbill even read the headline??? This is talking Canada, & we're not in Iraq or involved in China's oil bus.!!!
...and mwhals, don't count on automatic refilling....when we had an outage here in Ont. it was several weeks long & affected about 3-4 gas chains. There was no shortage of gas, just that the competitors brought in extra & jacked the price way up to as they said "serve the public better".

Just another instance of decaying infrastructure. Roads, bridges, sewers, reservoirs, schools, no money for anything. All our money is going into the Iraqi pit, and they just signed a $3 Billion deal with one of China's state oil companies. Thanks for nothing, Iraq!

Petro-Canada is too big in Canada. They seem to set the local markets, so I never buy their products. They operate similar to EXXON, Mobil, Shell, and Texaco. Always the highest price, or first to raise prices. And last to lower prices.
