China to have 200 million vehicles by 2020

AFP -- The number of vehicles on China's roads will more than double to at least 200 million by 2020, a top official was quoted Monday as saying, further straining the nation's environment and energy supply.

China must make it a top priority to develop fuel-efficient and alternative energy cars, the China Securities Journal said, citing Wang Fuchang, vice minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

China's auto sales hit 13.64 million units last year, overtaking the United States as the world's top car market, while sales this year are forecast to hit 15 million units.

The surging car use has brought mounting concerns over pollution, soaring energy demand, and traffic gridlock.

More 10-12 day traffic jams. Build roads & infrastructure
first, then sell them wheels, but what do I know?

Since Canada and the US would not or could not develop fuel efficient cars it will probably fall to China to do the job.

China already has 75 mile traffic jams. Wait until they start building roads. That will consume even more oil (asphalt, construction and more cars.)

And we're supposed to be cutting back on crude oil use and having everything regulated to save "greenhouse gases"... Kinda like keeping the music down low enough that I can barely hear it in my house in order to not disturb the neighborhood while my next door neighbor cranks Metallica out his windows at full volume...

Sounds like instant grid lock to me... as I have not really heard much of their highway infrastructure and the ability of one to get around on anything that can move at a good constant speed. They may get the cars... but will they all be able to be on the road at the same time???

China the Communist country who outbuys the U.S. on autosales plus making allthat junk that we import. To top it off, they own a multitude of securities that this country has sold to get cash. A sorry state for the U.S.A.

The Chinese can not send their wealth to the Arabs and won't. Who's going to bring a vehicle to the market that can be driven NY to LA non-stop at a an average of 65 mph on 28 gallons of liquid fuel uncompressed (100mpg)? Coasting downhill counts. I think the Germans are closest with their turbo diesel and super capacitors.

It wouldn't hurt America to cut the dependence on gasoline. No, No, not with Ethanol trash but with real things that work now. Natural Gas, we have it and we have the proven technology to use it in cars. Hydrogen could be just around the corner if the government would quit wasting money on Ethanol and spend some of it on Hydrogen development.

The Chinese have a developing middle class that wants to be able to travel on their timetable and not that of public transportation. Without efficient transportation, China will be importing much more oil than the US.

With an increase of sales, there is an increase in production. GM and Ford do sell autos in China and that is a place to sell.

It still may be a question on where the autos are to be produced. The production of goods in China are low and that could also mean they may consentrate on there on manufactures.

Other ways of travel, like the railroad are also probably going to rasie as well.
